Description

Springfields is a 17th-century farmhouse, now a house, with an attached domestic range dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. It has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The main part of the house is constructed of ironstone ashlar with a steeply pitched tile roof, stone-coped gables, and three stone ridge and end stacks with renewed shafts. The building is arranged with a three-unit plan over two storeys plus an attic, featuring a four-window front. The central entrance has a panelled and glazed door, topped with a keyblock stone lintel. The ground floor has three 4- and 5-light metal casement windows in wooden frames, and the first floor has four similar windows, also with metal casements and lead cames. There are two gabled roof dormers. The attached rear range is built of coursed ironstone rubble with a slate roof, renewed brick, and stacks. It has a two-unit plan over two storeys and a single-window range. A 20th-century entrance is on the left side, and the ground and first floors have 2- and 3-light metal casements in wooden frames, some with lead cames, crown glass, and wrought-iron casement fasteners. The interior has not been inspected.
