Description
Southgate is a shop and dwelling, now a house, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared marlstone with some ashlar dressings and features a Welsh-slate roof with a brick end stack. The building has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys tall. The three-window front includes a central six-panel door with an overlight, and twelve-pane sash windows, all topped with ashlar flat arches. To the left of the entrance, there is a large canted-bay shop window set on an ashlar base, with its flat roof extending as a canopy over a blocked doorway. The roof is shallow-pitched and has a stack on the left side. The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value.
