Description

Featherton House is a substantial house dating from the mid-17th century, which was restored, extended, and partly remodeled in the 19th century for H.R. Franklin. It is constructed of coursed squared marlstone with ashlar dressings and features Stonesfield-slate roofs with ashlar stacks. The building has an L-shaped plan and consists of two storeys plus an attic.

The front of the house has two windows and a chamfered plinth. The gable end of the main range is to the right, featuring aligned stone-mullioned windows with 4, 3, and 2 lights, all adorned with labels. To the left, there are 4-light windows on both floors, and in the center, there is a Tudor-arched moulded stone doorway with recessed spandrels and a label.

The right return front has a four-window range with large 19th-century stone-mullioned windows made of limestone ashlar. A 19th-century projection in the bay includes a cartouche of arms set below its gable window. The principal windows on both fronts have 19th-century sashes for each light. A lower 19th-century bay extends from the end of the longer range and features a Tudor-arched carriage entry. There is also a subsidiary range to the left of the front range.

All gables are topped with parapets that have projecting moulded kneelers, and the stacks have limestone shafts with moulded caps set on marlstone plinths. The interior has not been inspected.
