Description

Barton House Farmhouse is likely of 17th-century origin, with significant remodelling in the 18th century. It is constructed of regular coursed ironstone rubble, with a raised slate roof and brick ridge and end stacks. The farmhouse has a 3-unit plan and three storeys, with a three-window front. A gabled stone porch has a reset stone window and a 20th-century door, flanked by 20th-century windows with wood lintels. The attic floor has two 3-light and a 2-light metal casement windows in narrow wood frames, with wood lintels, wrought-iron fasteners and lead cames. Inside, you’ll find stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, an inglenook with a chamfered bressumer, and a blocked wood mullioned window.

Attached to the right side of the farmhouse is a 18th-century dairy with a stone flag floor and small windows, along with fittings for setting trays. The attached stable and granary, also dating from the 18th century, are built of regular coursed ironstone with a slate roof. They have a wood lintel over the stable entrance and external steps leading to the granary. The roadside has a plank door with a wood lintel on the right and two ventilation slits on the left.
