Description
Dairy approximately 30 metres north east of the Kitchen at Kirtlington Park
Dairy, mid-19th century with circa 1900 extension. Built in limestone ashlar with a hipped red tiled roof featuring stone bracketed overhanging eaves and two lead pinnacles. Single storey, single-unit plan.
The front elevation is distinguished by a chamfered stone plinth, moulded stone stringcourse at impost level, and rusticated quoins. The central entrance has a moulded semi-circular head with keyblock, a 10-panelled door with fanlight, and is flanked by two 2-pane sash windows with moulded semi-circular heads with keyblocks and moulded stone sills.
The interior comprises a large single space with a central glazed red tiled block with slab top. Side walls feature slate shelves along all sides. The walls are finished with glazed white hexagonal tiles, with red and yellow patterned friezes positioned above the shelves and at cornice height. Red tiles are laid below the shelves, with a single band of green at the skirting and immediately above the shelves. Cast iron wall brackets support the shelving. The floor is finished in chequered red and black quarry tiles. Gas light fitments are present.
The rear extension, added circa 1900, includes a wall-mounted belt-driven mechanism.
