Description
SHENINGTON WITH ALKERTON SHENINGTON SP 3642-3742 7/72 Lower Farmhouse 22.6.88 GV II Farmhouse now house. C17 origins with early C18 and C19 alterations and additions. Early. C18 front on road has squared, coursed ironstone approaching ashlar. Slate roof. Stone coped gables with moulded kneelers. Ironstone quoins. Stone ridge stacks with stone bases and renewed shafts. Irregular plan, with C18 block on main road and earlier range altered in C19 extending to rear along lane. 2 storeys. 3-window range. Elevation to road has 3 sashes in moulded wood frames on both ground and first floor, Entrance front on angle. 2 storeys. 2-window range. Entrance to right has 6-panelled door with glazed panels, moulded stone architrave surround with cornice. 12-pane sash in moulded wood frame to left has stone lintel. 2 similar sashes to first floor with keyblock surrounds. Fire plaque. Return up lane. 2 storeys. 5-window range. Ground floor has sashes with stone flat arches, 2-light casements and C20 windows. First floor has similar windows. Interior. Rear has a stop-chamfered beam and stud partition. Early C18 range on roadside has a C18 panelled room, marble fireplace and C18 staircase. One window said to be dated 1722.
