Description
The Limes is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of squared, coursed ironstone that is nearly ashlar in appearance. The roof is steeply pitched, covered with stone slates laid in diminishing courses, and hipped at one end. The building features three ridge and end stacks with blue brick shafts set on stone bases, two of which have been renewed.
The house has a three-unit plan and stands two storeys plus an attic high, with a three-window range. The entrance is located to the right and consists of a plank door set within a moulded wood doorcase that has a flat hood and an overlight. This entrance is flanked by canted bay windows that contain horned sash windows. To the left of the entrance, there are two additional sash windows with horns.
On the first floor, there are three horned sash windows, each topped with stone flat arches. The house also features two 18th-century gabled roof dormers, which have two-light casements with wrought-iron casement fasteners and wooden frames. Inside, the property has stone flag floors and plank doors.
