Description
Old Barn House is a house that consists of two sections, built in the 17th century and later extended in the 18th and 19th centuries. It features a datestone marked W/WE/1709. The building is arranged in an L-shape and constructed from regularly coursed ironstone rubble.
The front elevation facing the road has two distinct parts. The left section has a thatched roof and two brick stacks at the ends. This part is a single storey with an attic and has a three-window arrangement. The central gabled bay contains a 20th-century two-light stone mullioned window with a hood mould and label stop. There are two three-light stone mullioned windows on either side, which have had their stonework renewed, along with hood moulds and label stops. The left section also features three tall two-light stone mullioned attic dormers, all with hood moulds and label stops, and the wall has been heightened.
The right section, dated 1709, has a low-pitched Welsh slate roof and a brick stack at the right end. This part is two storeys high with a single window range. It includes tall four-light stone mullioned windows with hood moulds and label stops on both the ground floor and first floor. The rear of the house has 19th and 20th-century extensions on the left side, along with a 20th-century entrance porch. The right section has renewed stonework on its two- and four-light stone mullions, and there are two 20th-century two-light roof dormers with wood lintels. The interior has not been inspected.
