Description

Two small houses, likely originally a single dwelling, were probably built in the late 17th or early 18th century. The houses are constructed of coursed squared marlstone with wooden lintels, and have a concrete roof covered with plain tiles, with rebuilt brick stacks. The three-unit plan has been subdivided. The front has three windows per floor. The first floor windows are casements with 2, 3, and 3 lights, while the ground floor windows have 3 lights each, except for the right-hand ground-floor window, which sits below the chamfered lintel of a significantly wider opening. Doorways are situated between the bays; the entrance to the Post Office Cottage (on the left) may be earlier and features a cambered lintel. A steep-pitched roof is topped by two stacks rising from the ridge and a third to the right. The interior was not inspected. The property is included on the list for its contribution to the group value of the surrounding buildings.
