Description

A late 17th-century house located on the south side of Somerton Road, Ardley. The house is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with wooden lintels and has a thatched roof. A rubble-and-brick gable stack is present. Originally a two-unit plan building, it now has two storeys plus an attic. The front, facing the garden, features a doorway situated to the left of the centre, a two-light casement to its left, and a three-light casement, that originally had four lights. The first floor has casements of two and three lights. All windows have stop-chamfered lintels. A stack on the right side has paired brick shafts. An outshut has been added to the left side of the building. The rear elevation contains further two- and three-light casements with stop-chamfered lintels, as well as two small stair windows. The interior includes a very large open fireplace with a stop-chamfered bressumer. There is also a chamber fireplace within the splay of the chimney breast, along with stop-chamfered beams and a butt-purlin roof.
