Description
Swerford Park is a house built in the 18th century and remodelled between 1824 and 1829 by J.M. Gandy. The building is finished in stucco, with two stone stacks on the right end. In 1984, the stucco was removed from the main front, revealing limestone walling, and the Welsh slate roof was stripped during a re-survey. The north front features three bays and two storeys plus an attic, with a central entrance bay that has Soanian character, supported by two Greek Doric columns in antis and a balustraded balcony above the central room on the first floor. The side bays include tripartite sash windows, and there are sash windows on the first floor and attic storey. The south elevation has three storeys and is noted for its two three-sided, three-storey bay windows. Inside, the hall features pine doorcases with eared architraves and carved friezes, and there is a contemporary fireplace in the room to the left of the hall. The house also has an 18th-century style staircase with a mahogany handrail. In 1893, Robert Snow Bolton Davis, the son of Samuel Davis, was living in Swerford Park.
