Description

Saunders Farmhouse, now a house, was built in the late 16th century, with an early 20th-century extension added to the north-west. The farmhouse has a timber frame built on a red brick plinth; the south-west side is weather-boarded, while the east side shows exposed timber framing with plaster infilling. A ridge stack is located to the left, and an end stack with a projecting stack is found to the right. The building is arranged in a T-shaped plan. It is two storeys high and has an irregular three-window front to the south-west, with wooden casement windows. The central entrance has a recessed porch and a 20th-century boarded and ribbed door. The interior retains evidence of the original heavy timber framing, including heavily jowled posts, and four framed bays to the south. A single 16th-century mullioned window survives internally to the north-west.
