Description

The Hartniep headstone, dated 1727, is located approximately 3 meters southwest of the porch of the Old Church of St Peter in Pembury. This headstone is an upright sandstone slab that stands about 400 millimeters high. The front of the stone is recessed, and it features a shaped curvilinear head that is inscribed with crossbones. Below this, the inscription is presented in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, commemorating the death of Thomas Hartniep in 1727.
