Description
The Hart monument is a pedestal tomb located in the churchyard about 6.5 meters north of the west end of the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Westbury-on-Severn. It commemorates Mary Hart, who died in 1814, and is made of stone. The monument features a low pyramid top resting on a separate flat lid, with indented corners and a reeded vertical edge, along with a hollow chamfer below. The body of the tomb has indented corners and a reeded frieze on each side, which includes a central patera. The west side displays a tall oval with a raised wreath outlining it, while the east side has a raised oval panel with a spray above. The north and south sides feature shields formed by recessed lines. The entire structure sits on a plinth with a moulded top, which is set on a square stone base at ground level. There are some later inscriptions present on the monument.
