Description

The stable building, located about 50 meters east of Matfield House, is likely from 1736 and was built at the same time as Matfield House and other structures in the stable courtyard. The building features Flemish bond brick on the ground floor and tile hanging on the first floor, topped with a peg-tile roof.

The stable is rectangular in shape and faces west, forming the western boundary of the courtyard. A 19th-century outshut has been added to the south end. It stands two stories tall with a half-hipped roof at both ends, and the eaves of the roof project outward. There is a moulded fascia at the first-floor level.

The front of the building is asymmetrical with six windows. On the first floor, there are five two-light casement windows, each with six panes per light, and a similar window on the left side of the ground floor. The approximately central entrance features sliding doors with flush panels, and to the right of this entrance is a doorway with six fielded panels.

On the left (north) side, there is an 18th-century plank door with a small-pane fixed window next to it, along with a small-pane sliding sash window on the first floor and a 20th-century one-light window alongside. Above these, there is a two-light opening, with one light glazed. The right (south) side has a lean-to roof over the outshut, with brick cogging below the eaves, a two-light casement window with square leaded panes, and probably a 20th-century two-leaf plank door in the center. There is also a three-light casement window on the first floor.

The interior has not been inspected but may hold some interest.
