Description
This is a barn located about 40 metres south-west of Maynards, originally associated with it but now under separate ownership. The barn likely dates from the 18th century and underwent renovations around the 1930s. It features framed construction on sandstone footings, with cement render infill and a peg-tile roof.
The barn has a five-bay design and faces south, positioned at a right angle to Maynards and end-on to the road. There are opposed threshing doors in the centre, with outshuts on either side of the south porch.
On the exterior, the framing is visible down to the ground. The south wall has limewashed weatherboarding, particularly seen in the outshut, suggesting that the barn was originally weatherboarded. The infill in the exposed framing may have been added during the 1930s renovations. The roof is half-hipped at the ends, and the rear doorway has been blocked. The front elevation features a gabled projecting porch with full-height timber doors, flanked by outshuts with a catslide roof.
Inside, the wall framing includes posts with formed jowls. The barn has tie beam, queen strut, and clasped purlin trusses surrounding the threshing floor, with the two outer trusses featuring diagonal braces below a collar.
The barn has group value with Maynards.
