Description
Thorn Cottages is a row of four cottages built in the late 18th century or early 19th century. The ground floor is made of brick, while the first floor is tile-hung. The original slate roof has been replaced with a concrete tile roof.
The cottages face approximately north and are arranged symmetrically, likely consisting of two cells each. The main rooms are heated by back-to-back fireplaces located in axial stacks. There are some modern single-storey additions at the rear.
The cottages are two storeys high with hipped roofs at the ends. Each cottage features a 19th-century panelled front door. The row has four 16-pane sash windows on the ground floor and four on the first floor, all dating from the early 19th century. The rear has casement windows. The front doors are painted and are positioned in the centre, with additional doors at the extreme left and right.
While the concrete tile roof is an unfortunate change, intact cottage rows from this period with original doors and windows are rare.
