Description
Homebush Cottage is a house, formerly two cottages, likely built in the late 17th century in two phases and thoroughly renovated in the 1970s. It features framed construction, with the ground floor covered in weatherboarding and the first floor tile-hung. The roof is made of peg tiles and gabled at both ends, with brick stacks.
The house faces approximately north and is situated along the road. Internally, it has been modernized with altered partitions. The right (west) end is probably the earlier section and has been raised.
The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical four-window front. The roof is gabled at the ends, and there are projecting end stacks with tile-hung set-offs. A half-glazed 20th-century front door is located to the left of centre, flanked by small-pane windows. There are four small-pane top-hung casements on both the ground and first floors, along with one attic dormer that has a hipped roof and a small-pane casement.
Inside, the exposed carpentry has a plain character, with wall framing made of slender scantling and formed jowls to the wall posts. The roof has been replaced in the 20th century.
The cottage is prominently located on a roadside site.
