Description
The barn is likely of 18th century origin, situated approximately 40 metres east-southeast of Manor Farmhouse. It is a timber-framed structure, with external weatherboarding and a brick plinth of random bond. The roof is half-hipped, clad with corrugated iron on the north side and plain clay tiles on the south. The barn’s plan comprises six bays, with a threshing floor located in the third bay from the southeast end, separated from the adjacent bays by low partitions. A smaller, later outshut, likely used as stables, was added at the southeast end. The northeast front features a cart entrance to the left of centre, while the southwest front has a smaller doorway opposite the right side, both with boarded double doors. The southeast end of the outshut has a doorway to the right and a small window immediately to its left, both with boarded doors. Internally, the timber-frame structure remains complete, displaying close-studded walls with tension braces, staggered purlins, mid-rails, and posts with jowled heads. The roof is a common rafter design, without a ridge piece, and includes straight wind braces above the threshing bay. Tie-beam and queen-post trusses are present. Long straight braces extend from the wall posts above the low threshing bay partitions. A section of the original boarded threshing floor is still visible.
