Description
The Church of St Thomas is a plain Gothic church built between 1860 and 1861 by H Pownall. It features an aisled layout with a west belfry and a lower east chancel. The walls are constructed of rubble, and the roof is covered with grey and green slates. The south transept, designed in a similar style by R H Gurling, was added in 1888. Inside, the nave has a wooden rafter roof that is separate from the chancel. The south aisle includes a 5-sided baptistery at its southern end. An organ loft was added in the north transept in 1925. The church also has a stone pulpit adorned with marble columns and inset decoration, along with later 19th-century stained glass in the windows.
