Description
The Royal Mount Ephraim Hotel is a building dating from 1834, located on the northwest side of Mount Ephraim. It features a central section that is four storeys high with three windows, flanked by slightly recessed wings that are three storeys tall with one window each. There is a stringcourse above the first floor, and a cornice and parapet above the wings, which extends across the central portion as well. The second floor of the wings has round-headed windows, although the glazing bars are missing. Above the central portion, the cornice and parapet support two shields topped with a crown, flanked by figures of a lion and a unicorn. The building has been modified by the addition of two large bays on the ground floor and a continuous domed glass verandah built above them on the first floor. The hotel is part of a group with Nos 58 to 61 and the pavement.
