Description
Clevelands is a house that likely dates back to the 15th century and was originally an open hall-house. It features a late 16th-century inserted chimneystack and has been altered in the 19th century, with a 20th-century rear wing added. The structure appears to be two-thirds of a Wealden house. It is timber-framed and clad in weatherboarding, although the right side elevation has rat trap band brickwork. The roof is steeply pitched and renewed with tiles, featuring a stepped late 16th-century chimneystack; the right side is hipped with a gablet, while the left side has a gable. The first floor of the southernmost window bay oversails on brackets, and the remainder of the eaves also oversails on brackets. The house has two storeys and four windows, all of which are casement windows.
Inside, there is a large 18th-century open fireplace accompanied by two spice cupboards. The interior features a roll-moulded spine beam, with the other beams being 19th-century copies. There is some 16th-century panelling and two early 17th-century cupboard doors, along with three octagonal crown posts.
