Description
Bishopsden is a house located in Benenden, featuring a late medieval structure with a 16th-century rear wing that was altered in the 18th century and extended with an early to mid-19th-century front wing. The front wing has a ground floor made of red brick and a first floor that is tile hung. The roof is old, tiled, and hipped to the right side, with end brick chimneystacks. The house is two storeys tall and has three windows. The central window consists of 16-pane sashes, while the others are later 19th-century windows with verticals only, and the ground floor features tripartite windows. There is a central wooden porch adorned with fretted decoration and sunray emblems. The rear wing includes some 18th-century brickwork. Inside, there is an 18th-century winder stair, a roll-moulded dais beam from the former open hall, and a roll-moulded ceiling dating to around 1600. An arch with a possible base cruck and six plank doors can also be found, along with an original window featuring diamond mullions.
