Description
Benenden Chest Hospital Lister Wing is a hospital ward building constructed in 1937 by Sir John Burnet, Tait and Lorne, showcasing an International modern style. It was extended in 1953 by Oswald Pearce. The building is a long, two-storey block made of yellowish brick with a flat roof, oriented to the south to maximize sunlight for tubercular patients. Each bay features large, four-light full-height glazing with double French windows leading to a balcony on the first floor or a verandah on the ground floor. The design includes rounded corners at both ends and a central square block that is taller. The rear elevation has less expansive glazing but includes porthole windows at the ends and a flight of steps leading to the balcony.
