Description
The Ex-Servicemen's Club is an oast house that has been converted into a clubhouse. It dates back to the 17th century or earlier, with alterations made in the early 19th century and restoration in the early 20th century. The building features a timber frame that is partly exposed, with plaster and red brick infill, and tile hanging on the first floor. It has a plain tiled roof and is two stories high, with a hipped roof and gablets.
On the ground floor, there are two wooden casements and a single light window to the right, along with three casements and a boarded door to the right in a gabled porch. To the left, there is a lean-to extension supported by an arcade of squared posts, and at the end left, there is a two-story hipped extension. The right end of the building is rounded, topped with a conical roof and a wooden cowl, which is inscribed with "Ex. S.M. Club." The construction details suggest that the building may have originally been domestic before its use as an oast house.
