Description

The Mancktell headstone, dated 1779, is located approximately 2 meters west of the tower of the Old Church of St Peter in Pembury. This headstone is an upright sandstone slab that stands about 1 meter high. The top of the headstone is shaped and features a carved winged cherub's head surrounded by scrolls. Below this, the inscription is presented in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, commemorating the death of Thomas Mancktell in 1779.
