Description
The Crossways is a house that dates back to the 16th century, with additions from the 17th century and cladding from the 19th century, along with later additions from the late 19th or early 20th century. It features a timber frame with the ground floor having applied close studding and pebble dashed infill, while the first floor is tile hung and swept over the ground floor. The roof is plain tiled, half hipped to the right, and has a jettied return gabled wing to the left, complete with bargeboards on the gable. There are two gabled dormers on the main wing. The building is two storeys with attics and has an irregular arrangement of windows, featuring five on the first floor and four on the ground floor, including a square bay under the left-hand jetty. The windows are leaded lattice casements. To the right of the centre is a gabled weather porch with applied timbering and pebble dashed infill, leading to a boarded and ribbed door with a centre light. There is a wing to the right at the rear. Inside, substantial framing is visible, and there is a large wooden bressummer over the fireplace.
