Description

Crane House, now divided into flats, is an 18th-century building that has been altered and extended in the 19th and mid-20th centuries. It features painted brickwork, with painted tile hanging on the right side and a weather-boarded and tile-hung rear elevation. The house has a plain tiled roof and stands two storeys high on a plinth, with a plat band and pilasters on either side leading to a parapet above a hipped roof. There are stacks located at the centre right and at the rear left and right.

The front facade includes tripartite sash windows on both sides and two central sashes on each floor, with the ground floor windows having segmental heads. The original doorway is located to the centre left, and photographs indicate it was once framed by a columned porch. The current entrance is through a half-glazed door situated in a hipped porch on the right side. The left side features a glazing bar sash window and French doors with a valanced hood, along with irregular rear wings.

At the rear left, there is a red and blue chequered brick garden wall, approximately 6 feet high, constructed in English garden wall bond. This wall dates from the 18th century and has been extended with red brick, featuring cogged capping, and runs about 20 yards to the west and approximately 50 yards along the back of the garden.
