Description

Old Park Cottage is a mid-19th century keepers cottage situated on the Cranbrook Road in Goudhurst. It is constructed of sandstone blocks with a plain tiled roof. The cottage is single-story with a garret and has a cross plan. The front elevation features a projecting gabled wing to the centre-left, topped with a steeply pitched gable displaying pierced and moulded bargeboards, a pendant, and a finial. A stack is centrally positioned on this gable. A small 20th-century dormer window is visible to the right. The gable has a wooden casement window on the first floor, and narrow single lights on the ground floor – one to the left, two to the right, and one on the gable’s side elevations. A boarded door sits within a four-centred arched doorway in the gable. The end gables are similarly detailed with pierced and moulded bargeboards, pendants, and finials. A hipped bay is located on the right return. Originally belonging to the Glassenbury Estate, associated with Glassenbury House in the Cranbrook Civil Parish, the cottage served as a keepers residence.
