Description

The causeway and walls, located about 20 metres west of Old Scotney Castle, have origins dating back to the 14th century and were reconstructed around 1840. Made of sandstone, the causeway leads to the outer of the two islands in the River Teise where the Castle is situated. The side walls are approximately 3 feet high and about 10 metres long, extending another 10 metres to the west. They also return along the inner bank of the moat to the west, forming an embankment wall that ends in ruinous gate piers about 20 metres from the causeway.
