Description
Causton Cottage and Hope Cottage are two houses that were originally one structure, dating back to the 16th century and later clad in the 18th century. The building features a timber frame, with the ground floor covered in red brick and the first floor tile hung. It has a steep plain tiled roof, with a small hip from the rear wing visible over the ridge to the left. A tall red brick chimney stack is located at the center of the ridge. The layout likely follows a baffle entry plan, though it is now divided into two cottages. The building stands two storeys high and has an irregular arrangement of windows, with four on the first floor and three small bays on the ground floor—two on the right and one on the left. There are two doors to the left of center; the door on the right is boarded with a center light, while the door on the left is panelled with glazed top lights, both covered by a flat hood. Inside, there is a substantial timber frame with heavily jowled posts.
