Description
This is a row of cottages, likely built around 1860 to 1870 in Aylesford. The ground floor is constructed from rough-cut ragstone with yellow brick detailing. Above, there’s a decorative half-timbered effect with projecting bays supported by joists and exposed ends of timber beams, all under gabled roofs. The roofs are tiled with tall chimney stacks of ragstone and yellow brick, and some original octagonal clay chimney pots remain. The row has projecting gables at each end and a central projection, with five gabled dormers – one central and two on each side. The windows are hexagonal with latticed iron frames. Doorways are found in a lean-to extension at the right (number 32), at the left end (number 22), in the central recessed areas (numbers 24 and 30), and as a pair in the centre (numbers 26 and 28). The doors at numbers 24 and 28 are original 19th-century boarded doors, while the others are modern glazed or half-glazed doors. The group value lies in the attractive detailing and cohesive appearance of this cottage row.
