Description

This is a pair of houses located on the north side of High Street, Aylesford. They were built in 1767, as indicated by the inscription "I A E 1767" on a stone band between the first and second floors. The houses are constructed of red and blue brick laid in a chequered pattern, with brick bands running horizontally. They have a plain tiled roof with two parallel ridges and end chimneys. The front of the building is regular, originally containing three windows per floor, although the central bay windows are now blocked. The windows are glazing bar sashes with open boxes and gauged heads, and they decrease in size as they rise from the ground to the third floor, with the first-floor windows being slightly shallower than the ground-floor windows, and the subsequent floors progressively shallower still. The central doorways are paired, with panelled doors set within architraves, each protected by a flat hood. Shared steps lead up to the entrances.
