Description

The George House, originally The George Hotel, is a house dating from the mid-16th century, with alterations made in 1714. It is rendered with painted mock square framing on the first floor. The roof is hipped and covered with plain tiles, featuring a gablet to the left and ridge stacks at the right end and left end. A continuous jetty is carried around both corners and along both sides, supported by moulded bressummers, dragon-beams, and dragon-posts. The building has a four-wing plan with a small internal courtyard.

The first floor has an irregular two-window facade, featuring a quadripartite sash window to the left and a casement window to the right. The ground floor has a three-window facade with a 6-light 19th-century wooden transom and mullion window. The main entrance door, to the right of the central ground-floor window, is double and features half-glazed panels with late 19th-century etched glass bearing the inscription 'The George Inn' in raised lettering. A panel on the first floor, to the right, displays the raised lettering "S . C A 1714".
