Description
Ham Mill Cottage is a 17th-century house located in Birling, on the south side of Brook Lane. The building features a wide plinth made of galletted coursed rubblestone, which is topped by 12 courses of red brick. The exposed timber-frame has red brick infilling on the ground floor, while the first floor is tile-hung. The roof is plain tiled, half-hipped to the left, with a skylight on the right. The cottage has two storeys and attics, with an irregular two-window front that includes 19th-century casements. There is a 20th-century boarded door to the right and a 20th-century extension to the right, which includes a first storey and attic. The rear of the building shows some wind-bracing in the plaster-infilled timber frame, along with additional extensions.
