Description
Nos 44-48 on High Street is a house that has been converted into a house and shop, dating from around 1880. The building features random rubble with dressed stone quoins on the ground floor and mock timber-framing with plaster infilling on the first floor. It has very long curved braces and a plain tiled roof with a return gable that slightly projects to the left of the center. There are tall stock brick stacks located at the center of the ridge and to the right, along with a gabled dormer on the right side. The structure is two storeys high with attics and jetties out on the first floor under the gable, supported by moulded bressummers resting on moulded dragon-brackets. The front has two windows, featuring cast-iron diamond lattice casements; one is located in the second floor of the gable within a square oriel supported by two carved brackets, and the other is on the ground floor to the right in a hexagonal bay. The central entrance is pointed arched, framed in wood, and has a boarded and ribbed door.
