Description

Hotel St. Placids is a hotel built in the 1860s, located on Victoria Parade in Ramsgate. The building is rendered and features an interlocking tiled roof. It has four storeys and a basement, with a rusticated base that includes cill bands and rusticated quoins on the left-hand block, which slightly projects. This block has a modillion eaves cornice and a hipped roof with stacks on the left and center right.

The right-hand block has three sash windows on the third floor with moulded surrounds, three more on the second floor with cornices on brackets, and three French doors leading to a tented verandah that has valancing, trellised piers, and cast iron rails. There is also a canted bay to the right and a glazed porch.

The left-hand block features tripartite sashed windows on each floor, with French windows on the first floor. This block has pilasters and a segmental pediment on the second floor, along with a tented verandah supported by cast iron piers and rails on large consoles. There is a full-height canted bay on the left return and a single-storey porch with Doric columns.

At the rear left, there is a three-storey rendered block with canted bays. The entire building is surrounded by a railed area with spearhead rails and principals topped with pomegranate finials.
