Description
The Corner House Hotel is a hotel built around 1855. It features painted stucco with a single pilaster strip with V-joints at the outer ends of the center bay, and double pilaster strips framing the second window unit from each outer corner. The roof is concealed behind a continuous parapet with balusters and blockings at the center and ends, and is likely covered with slate. This corner building is set to a fine curve, covering an acute-angled return.
It is three storeys high and symmetrical, with seven windows that alternate between three-light and single-light plate glass sashes, which have rendered mullions and surrounds. The second floor is under a continuous cornice with projections at the parapet blockings, above a cill band, while the first floor windows are above a continuous plinth course that includes balusters beneath the first-floor windows. The triple sashes on the first floor have cornices on brackets and a central pediment. The central section features a simple 20th-century plate glass enclosure with three bays on each side and a recessed central glazed door. The building is simple, dignified, and has seen little modification, aside from the glass entry area.
