Description
Pars Corner is a rotunda corner shop built around 1860, featuring stucco in white with black dressings, and retains elements of Regency seaside style. The entrance has a round-headed arch between pilasters, topped with a pedimented fascia supported by large console brackets. On either side of the entrance, there are three elegant Quattrocento arches leading to shop windows, set on fluted columns that carry fragments of an entablature. A moulded plinth runs continuously below the windows. The keystones of the arches feature male and female heads. The windows on the two upper floors are plain and almost flush, with stringcourses in black. Behind a parapet made of modern bricks-on-edge is a polygonal hipped roof. The rear, facing Norwich Road, is likely a later addition, constructed of buff brick with red dressings, showcasing a thoroughly Victorian style.
Pars Corner is part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 17 (odd) Pembroke Hotel, Nos 25 to 31 (odd), Nos 39 to 45 (odd), and Nos 2 to 34 (even) Poole Hill, as well as Nos 166 to 196 (even) Commercial Road.
