Description
Nos. 68 and 70 are a pair of terrace houses located on the east side of Waterloo in Ramsgate, dating from around 1818. They are constructed of stock brick, with some parts rendered. The buildings rise three storeys above a basement, featuring a rusticated basement on the right side (No. 70) and a parapet with chimney stacks at the centre and to the right. Each house has one segmentally headed sash window on the second floor, with two-storey canted bay windows below that have moulded architraves and cornices. No. 70 includes French windows with a tented verandah, supported by scrolled pier brackets and simple railings. Both houses have half-glazed panelled doors at the centre and to the right, topped with semi-circular fanlights and keyed surrounds. Access is via flights of four steps with simple railings. The left-hand basement area is enclosed with hooped rails, while the right side has simple rails. These houses are depicted on Collard and Hurst's 1822 map of Ramsgate.
