Description

The Cottage is a house dated 1711, located on the south-west side of High Street in Ramsgate. It is constructed of knapped and coursed flint with red brick dressings and has a plain tiled roof. The building features two storeys and an attic, sitting on a plinth with a plat band. The roof has boxed eaves and Dutch shaped gables, along with two flat-roofed dormers and a stack at the right end.

On each floor, there are two glazing bar sash windows, and a central half-glazed door set in a segmental surround. Notably, on the first floor at the left end, there is half of a roundel with a date plaque that shows the final "11" of the date 1711. This suggests that the house was originally part of a larger building, possibly referred to as Little Ellington on a 1735 plan of Ramsgate.
