Description

This is a pair of houses built in the early 18th century in Ramsgate. They are constructed of painted and rendered brick with a plain tiled roof. The houses are two storeys and have an attic, set on a plinth with boxed eaves and gable ends featuring kneelers. A flush skylight is located on the left, and a flat-roofed dormer with a stack is on the right. The first floor has four multi-paned wooden casement windows. On the ground floor, a shallow 20th-century bow window is on the left, and two wooden casement windows with flying cornices are on the right. A multi-paned door is recessed within a moulded surround with Neo-Classical motifs on the frieze and cornice. A boarded door with a rectangular fanlight is recessed to the right. The area was a favoured retirement location for retired sailors, which is where the name 'Paradise' originates. The building is included on the list for its group value.
