Description

The gas works, offices with a railed area, depot, and adjoining walls and gate are located on Boundary Road in Ramsgate. This building dates from the late 19th century and is constructed of red brick and cream-coloured terracotta, topped with a plain tiled roof. It features two storeys and a basement, with a moulded string course, cornice, and parapet that includes gables and stacks at both ends.

At the center, there is a projecting porch with an octagonal turret and a leaded ogee dome. To the left, a five-light mullioned and transomed window is accompanied by two coupled two-light windows below and a large three-light stair window, which has a sloping base. The right side mirrors this with a five-light window divided by two panels and a picture window with top lights on the ground floor. The turret's top storey has a door to a balcony with a label surround and a gantry featuring ornate wrought iron scrolled bracket-rails supporting a large clock.

On the first floor, there are two sashes in stop-chamfered reveals, while the ground floor has double half-glazed doors with a rectangular fanlight in a moulded Gibbs-style surround, topped by an ornate coat of arms in a semi-circular panel. The building is accessed by four moulded steps, and all windows, doors, and decorative details are executed in terracotta. The basement has large openings, and simple rails with scrolled uprights lead to the steps and area.

Adjoining to the right is a depot building made of brown brick with red brick details, also two storeys high. It features a pedimented gable with a roundel and three pilaster-buttresses. The first floor has two wooden casements, while the ground floor has two semi-circular headed openings. The right return and rear of this building are whitewashed with irregular openings.

To the left, there is a wall approximately 12 feet high, built on a plinth and capped with decorative pilasters that match the depot building's buttresses. The wall steps up four times to a gateway, which includes a simple iron gate and gate pier to the west. The wall continues to adjoin the main block, providing a passageway entrance.
