Description

The building is a bandstand with an attached dance floor, steps, and boundary walls with railings, constructed in 1939. The bandstand is a circular structure with a shallow domed roof covered in green faience tiles and topped with an ogival finial and entablature. It is supported by eight Tuscan columns also clad in cream faience tiles, all standing on a concrete plinth featuring four steps. Original circular light fittings remain under the roof, and grooves for a moveable screen are visible at the top and bottom. A basement door with steps and cast iron balustrading, featuring a design of three circles, is located on the landward side, likely used for band equipment storage. Attached to the bandstand is a rectangular, grey, yellow, and green concrete dance floor with circular designs. Wide, shallow steps on each side are to accommodate deckchairs. A low brick wall in Flemish bond encloses the dance floor on three sides, surmounted by metal railings with horizontal bars and principals of four circles. Two entrances are located on the landward side and two to the seaward, each with flights of steps.
