Description

This is a group of four chest tombs located about 35 metres northwest of the Church of St. Laurence. The tombs include one for Henry Petley, who died in 1858. It features a stepped base leading to a plinth with a sarcophagus, reeded corner piers, raised side panels with chamfered corners, and a shaped top slab. The tomb is enclosed by spearhead rails. Approximately 5 metres southeast is an early 19th-century tomb with reeded side panels and a moulded top slab, adorned with crescent-headed rails and an urn finial. This tomb belongs to the Petley family, dating from 1806 onwards. Another chest tomb has a moulded plinth with baluster corner piers, reeded side panels, and a moulded top slab, along with spearheaded rails featuring cup and cover finials. Lastly, there is an unrailed chest tomb for Barman Bourne, who died in 1831, which has a moulded base with fluted baluster corner piers, raised and fielded side panels, and a moulded top slab.
