Description
Two headstones are located about 10 metres northeast of the Church of St Laurence. They commemorate the Pepper family, specifically Martha, Elizabeth, and Sarah Pepper, and date from the early 18th century. Each headstone features a segmentally headed inscription plaque adorned with two skulls and crossed bones within a double segmental head. One headstone is dedicated to William Pepper, husband and father of the preceding, who died in 1746. The headstones stand two and a half feet high and have foliated scrolled shoulders leading to a segmental cornice, which is decorated with a winged cherub's head and palm fronds set in clouds.
