Description

No. 42 on London Road is a house that now functions as a house and butcher's shop, dating from the 16th century. The building is timber framed and rendered, topped with a plain tiled roof. It stands two storeys high on a plinth, featuring a moulded eaves cornice beneath a hipped roof that has gablets and a central stack, along with one hipped dormer on the left side. The windows are arranged irregularly, with one half-size glazing bar sash on the right of the first floor and one large glazing bar sash on the ground floor to the left. The entrance is a four-panel door located to the centre right, and there is a plate glass shop front beneath a sloping pentice to the right.
