Description

Orchard House, also known as Nos 1 and 2 Tudor Cottages, is a timber-framed house located on Water Lane in Ospringe. It dates back to the 15th century for the north half, which has one window bay. The ground floor has been rebuilt in red brick, while the first floor is stuccoed with close-studding and features an overhanging section on a bressummer. The north front is weather-boarded. There is a brick chimney breast on the north side and on the left wing, where the ground floor is made of stone rubble and the first floor is also weather-boarded. This half of the building has one casement window with small square leaded panes on the east front.

The south half of the building, which comprises Nos 1 and 2 Tudor Cottages, is a 16th-century extension with two window bays. The ground floor is now red brick, while the first floor has exposed timber-framing with curved braces, overhangs on a moulded bressummer, and brackets. The windows in this section are modern. The entire building has a tiled roof.

Orchard House Nos 1 and 2 (Tudor Cottages), along with Nos 1 and 2 Bridge Cottage and Fern Lodge, form a group.
