Description
No. 15 OSPRINGE STREET is a Grade II* listed building that includes part of the medieval Maison Dieu Hospital, which was founded in 1230. The ground floor of this section is constructed from flints, with a visible corner post. Above, there is a timber-framed structure; part of it overhangs on the first floor at the west front, while other sections have been rebuilt in red brick and are hung with tiles. The east end of the building dates from the 17th century and is entirely made of red brick. It features an eaves bracket cornice and has one bay on the first floor with a cove beneath it and a sash window with intact glazing bars. The remaining windows throughout the building are casement windows. The building has a hipped tiled roof, is two storeys tall, and has four windows. There is also a cellar or undercroft. Nos. 1 to 19 (odd) form a group.
