Description

Mount Farm Oast is an oast house, now used as commercial premises, dated 1846. It is constructed of red brick with some blue headers arranged in a diaper pattern, featuring cemented details, and has a slate roof. The central range is designed in Jacobethan style, with later attached wings. The building stands two storeys high on a plinth, with a plat band, quoins, and a cornice leading to a large shaped gable topped with obelisk finials.

The large central entrance is adorned with climbing hop plants in relief on the jambs, and features an arch with raised voussoirs and a keystone that extends to the cornice. The entrance has 20th-century glazing and a door. Set into the gable is a clock with a scrolled surround and segmental pediment, displaying the date 1846, along with a dated achievement above it.

The left and right returns also feature shaped gables, which are partly obscured by later 19th-century gabled wings. These wings are two storeys high, with pierced barge boards and finials. The left wing has two segment-headed wood casements and a central glazed loft doorway, while the right wing has two moulded round-headed lights on each floor, along with a central round-headed door on the left. Both wings have blocked round-headed doorways on the ground floor.
